Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy Terms of Service

1. Introduction

Auto Budget ("the App") is a personal finance management application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the App.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Financial Data You Create

When you use the App, you create financial data including:

  • Transaction records (amounts, dates, descriptions, categories)
  • Account names and balances
  • Budget configurations
  • Payment plans and installments
  • Financial scenarios and projections

This data is created by you and stored locally on your device. If you sign in and enable cloud sync, this data is also stored on our servers.

2.2 Information from Notifications (Android Only)

With your explicit permission, the App can read notifications from banking and payment apps to automatically detect transactions. Specifically:

  • The App uses Android's Notification Listener Service to read notification content from apps you select
  • Notification content is processed to extract transaction data (amount, merchant, date)
  • In some cases, the notification message text may be transmitted to a third-party AI service for structured extraction. The message is sent without any information that identifies you — no name, email, account number, user ID, or device identifier is included. Only the raw message text is sent.
  • Raw notification content is not stored after transaction extraction
  • You can revoke notification access at any time in your device's Settings > Notifications > Notification access

This feature is entirely optional. The App functions fully without notification access.

2.3 Authentication Data

If you choose to sign in, we receive your email address, display name, and profile picture (from Google or Apple). Authentication is handled by a secure third-party service. We do not store your Google or Apple password.

2.4 Subscription Data

If you subscribe to a paid plan, subscription status is managed through a third-party subscription platform. The platform assigns anonymous user identifiers. We do not have access to your payment method details (handled by the App Store or Google Play).

2.5 Crash Reports

We collect crash reports and error logs via a third-party error reporting service to improve app stability. This includes device type, OS version, app version, and error stack traces. Crash reports do not include your personal financial data, account names, or transaction details.

3. How We Use Your Information

3.1 Core Functionality

Your financial data is used to display and manage your transactions, accounts, budgets, and reports; generate charts, projections, and financial insights; and sync data across your devices (when signed in).

3.2 AI-Powered Features

The App offers optional AI features for transaction parsing and categorization. When you use AI features, notification or transaction text is sent to a third-party AI service via our secure serverless infrastructure. The data shared is limited to the message text only and contains no personally identifiable information — no name, email, user ID, account number, or device ID is included. We do not use your data to train AI models. The AI provider's privacy policy applies to data it processes. AI features require a Pro+AI subscription and are entirely optional.

3.3 Cloud Sync

When you sign in, your financial data is encrypted on your device before being transmitted or stored in the cloud (end-to-end encryption). This means we — and any cloud provider — cannot read your financial data. Even if our servers were compromised, your financial content would remain unreadable. Only you, with your encryption key, can decrypt this data. Authentication tokens and metadata are protected by standard TLS in transit and encrypted at rest.

4. Data Sharing

  • We do not sell your data to third parties
  • We do not share your data with advertisers
  • We do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs

Under applicable privacy laws (including GDPR and CCPA), you have the right to: access your data, request deletion, object to processing, and withdraw consent. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@auto-budget.app. We process your data based on: (a) contractual necessity to provide the service, and (b) your explicit consent for optional features such as AI processing and cloud sync.

5. Data Storage and Security

  • Local data: Stored in an encrypted local database on your device
  • Cloud data: Stored in a secure cloud database with access control policies
  • Authentication tokens: Stored in your device's secure storage
  • Network communication: All API calls use HTTPS/TLS encryption

6. Your Rights and Choices

  • Export: Export all your data at any time via Settings > Export Data (JSON or CSV)
  • Delete: Delete your account and all associated cloud data
  • Offline use: Use the App entirely offline without creating an account
  • Notification access: Grant or revoke notification access at any time
  • AI features: Opt out of AI features by not subscribing to the AI tier

7. Data Retention

  • Local data: Retained on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App
  • Cloud data: Retained until you delete your account
  • Crash reports: Retained per our error reporting provider's data retention policy (90 days by default)
  • Subscription records: Retained per our subscription platform's data retention policy

8. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

10. Disclaimer of Warranty

The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We make no warranties that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all warranties, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
